I WORK AS A PROFESSIONAL IN TESTING FUEL SYSTEMS AND CALIBRATING ECM AROUND IT, BUT HAVE NEVER PLAYED AROUND THE OBD-2. I PLAN ON CONNECTING OBD2 BLUETOOTH/WIFI SCANNER ON MY CAR AS WELL. nOT SURE WHETHER IS IT SAFE ENOUGH TO NOT SCREW THE ELECTRONICS. HAVE ALSO HEARD A LOT ABOUT HIGH POWER CONSUMPTION AND WILL DRAIN BATTERY. BUT CAN IT BE USED DURING THE ENGINE IS oN ? AND DURING DRIVING AS WELL ? i HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED A PIGGYBACK ECU (DISELTRONIC) AND WANT TO MONITOR PERFORMANCE CHANGE WITH THAT. WILL OBD-2 BE A GOOD ASSISTANT FOR DOING THAT ?

THIS IS CERTAINLY BOATLOAD OF INFORMATION FOR A NEWBIE LIKE ME.
Ahhh, the good old days, which I can only imagine. I do all the repairs and maintenance on 2 different cars and have been doing my own work for a while. The oldest car I've ever owned was a 1991 model. The cool thing about the newer cars (say 2010 and newer) is that they do a lot of cool things with technology. I suppose that can be a double edge sword though, and it can cut you depending on which side you're on (the wow! cool technology side or the damn, I gotta fix this side). Hopefully, the series on OBD-II can inspire some people to use modern technology to its fullest. Glad you enjoyed the article!

In reply to David.

Ahhh, the good old days, which I can only imagine.
